Make Ahead Flaky Sausage Foldovers

These flaky sausage foldovers can be made ahead of time, making them great for parties.

These flaky sausage foldovers can be made ahead of time, making them great for parties.

Ingredients

  • Hot Pork Sausage
  • Garlic Powder
  • Pizza Sauce
  • Refrigerated Pie Crusts
  • Egg

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 425 degrees
  2. In skillet, cook sausage over medium high heat 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally until thoroughly cooked
  3. Drain well
  4. Stir in garlic powder and 1 / 4 cup of the pizza sauce
  5. Remove 1 crust from pouch
  6. On work surface, roll into 15-inch round
  7. With 3-inch round cutter, cut 11 rounds
  8. Repeat with second crust
  9. Spoon about 1 t sausage mixture onto each round
  10. Fold each in half
  11. Seal edges with fork
  12. Cut small slit in top of each with sharp knife
  13. Place on ungreased large cookie sheet
  14. Brush each foldover with beaten egg
  15. If desired, cut decorative shapes from remaining dough and attach with beaten egg
  16. Bake 9-11 minutes or until golden brown
  17. Meanwhile, in 1-quart saucepan, heat remaining pizza sauce until hot
  18. Serve warm appetizers with warm pizza sauce for dipping
  19. To make ahead, follow the recipe directions through step 3
  20. Freeze the foldovers on the cookie sheet until firm, then transfer to a resealable freezer plastic bag
  21. Use within two months
  22. To serve, remove the desired number of appetizers from the bag and bake according to the recipe directions, adding about 5 minutes
