Ingredients

  • Beef Short Ribs
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Onions
  • Minced Garlic Cloves
  • Gingerroot
  • Hot Pepper Flakes
  • Carrots
  • Turnips
  • Diced Tomatoes
  • Beef Broth
  • Soy Sauce
  • Tomato Paste
  • Fennel Seeds
  • Whole Cloves
  • Black Peppercorns
  • Cinnamon Stick
  • All-purpose Flour
  • Butter
  • Green Onions

Instructions

  1. Cut ribs into 2 bone pieces
  2. Arrange on broiler pan and broil until browned on both sides
  3. Set browned ribs aside
  4. In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat
  5. Saute garlic, onions, ginger, and hot pepper flakes until onions are soft then add to crock pot
  6. Add to crock pot carrots, turnips, diced tomatoes, beef stock, soy sauce, tomato paste
  7. Using a cheesecloth combine fennel seed, cloves, peppercorns, and cinnamon, tie cheesecloth
  8. Securely
  9. Place cheesecloth on top of vegetables
  10. Add ribs
  11. Cover and cook on low until meat is tender, about 7-8 hours
  12. Skim off any fat produced by ribs
  13. In a separate bowl combine flour with butter
  14. Stir into crock pot
  15. Increase heat to high
  16. Cover and let cook until liquid thickness
  17. When ready to serve sprinkle green onion on top
