Ingredients

  • Pork Shoulder
  • Five-spice Powder
  • Cooking Oil
  • Apple Juice
  • Dry White Wine
  • Soy Sauce
  • Cornstarch
  • Cold Water

Instructions

  1. Rub roast with five spice powder
  2. Sear roast in a skillet with hot oil before placing it in the cooker
  3. Mix together and pour over roast: apple juice, wine and soy sauce
  4. Cover and cook on low setting for 10 to 12 hours or on high setting for 4 1 / 2 to 5 hours
  5. For gravy: strain cooking liquid
  6. Skim off fat
  7. Combine 2 cups of liquid with cornstarch and water
  8. Cook until thick and bubbly
  9. Serve over rice
