From sunset wok cookbook; posting for zwt6 (asia). Caption for recipe states: "russet potatoes and thin, tender pork strips soak up the fragrance and flavor of chinese five-spice. The bottled spice blend is sold in many markets, but if you cannot find it you can easily make your own."

Ingredients

  • Russet Potatoes
  • Canola Oil
  • Lean Boneless Pork
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Water
  • Soy Sauce
  • Sugar
  • Chinese Five Spice Powder
  • Green Onion
  • Ground Ginger
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Anise Seed
  • Ground Allspice
  • Clove

Instructions

  1. Peel potatoes and cut crosswise into 1 / 2 inch thick slices
  2. Set aside
  3. Place wok over high heat
  4. When wok is hot add oil
  5. When oil is hot add pork and garlic
  6. Stir-fry until pork is browned
  7. Add potatoes, water, soy, sugar, and five-spice
  8. Bring to a boil
  9. Then reduce heat, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until potaotes are tender
  10. Garnish with onions
