Ingredients

  • Fresh Figs
  • Golden Raisin
  • Brandy
  • French Bread
  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Egg Yolks
  • Egg Yolk
  • Whipping Cream
  • Whole Milk
  • Lemon Juice
  • Lemon Peel
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Vanilla Ice Cream

Instructions

  1. Stir together figs, raisins and brandy in a medium bowl
  2. Let stand for 30 minutes
  3. Preheat oven to 350f generously butter an 8-cup souffle dish or casserole dish with straight sides
  4. Spread remaining butter onto bread slices
  5. Cut into 1-inch cubes and transfer to prepared dish
  6. Stir together sugar, eggs and egg yolk in a large bowl
  7. Whisk in cream, milk, lemon juice, lemon peel and vanilla
  8. Stir in fruit, then stir mixture into bread cubes
  9. Let stand for 5 minutes
  10. Set dish in a large baking pan and add hot water to come 1-inch up the sides of dish
  11. Bake for 1 3 / 4 hours or until custard is set in the center, tenting with foil if top browns too quickly
  12. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired
  13. Makes 8 servings
