Description
I personally requested my fire chief husband to include this recipe for review as it is my all time favorite. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner and have been known to do so. Please try this recipe and comment. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- Long Grain Rice
- Water
- Butter
- Chicken Bouillon Cube
- Salt
- Mild Sausage
- Onion
- Red Bell Pepper
- Celery
Instructions
- Place 3 cups of water and 1 t salt in a 5 quart pot
- Bring water to a boil and add 1 chicken bullion cube and one t of butter
- Add 1 1 / 2 c long grain rice
- Bring water back to a boil, stirring constantly
- Turn heat down to a simmer and cover with lid
- Cook 15 minutes
- Let stand 10 minutes until all of the water has been absorbed
- Chop onion, red pepper and celery
- Set aside
- In another skillet, brown sausage and add chopped vegetables to sausage
- Brown over medium heat for 5-10 minutes
- Drain sausage / vegetable mixture well,
- Combine the rice with the sausage mixture and stir, heating the mixture thoroughly
- Add salt and pepper to taste
- If you like the dirty rice spicier, you can add a few drops of your favorite hot sauce to taste
- In summer, you can add one or more medium tomatoes, chopped
