This is a great recipe that was clipped from a magazine many years ago.

Ingredients

  • Flour
  • Molasses
  • Buttermilk
  • Sugar
  • Butter
  • Baking Soda
  • Ground Ginger
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • Egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the over to 325 degrees fahrenheit
  2. Butter and flour a 9x9x2 inch pan
  3. Measure all ingredients into a large bowl
  4. With mixer at low speed, beat until blended, constantly scraping the bowl with a rubber spatula
  5. Increase the speed to medium and continue beating for 3 minutes, occasionally scraping bowl
  6. Pour into pan
  7. Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean
  8. Cool in pan on a wire rack
  9. Vinegar plus milk may be substituted for the buttermilk
